Can't Delete Messages Already Read-Need to ON

I have so many messages...some have been read & some haven't...from weeks ago even. It's hard to go through ALL of them to find the ones I haven't read. How do I delete the messages I've already read and/or only show the messages that are "New" & haven't read yet. Does anyone know?
