Memories of My Strict Headmistress in the 1970s

In recent days I've read a number of memories on social media of teachers at a school I went to from 1971-73. Some particularly caught my attention. We had a deputy headmistress I'll call her Mrs Atkins, she was a well built jovial type with a strict side, she wore long tight skirts, blouses and twinsets. In 1972 a mate told me his s*ster had been slippered by Mrs Atkins, a revelation that had quite an effect on me. Later I heard of a few more girls who were slippered by her. I should add that for boys public slipperings were a regular occurence, while more serious punishments involving the cane were carried out by the headmaster and one of the woodwork teachers. Then several years ago a man posted that Mrs Atkins had warned him about getting his hair cut, and when he didn't she slippered him, this came as quite a surprise as I had never thought she disciplined both sexes. A couple of days ago I was reading some posts on a social media forum for the school. I learned that the headmaster had retired around 1974, and Mrs Atkins took over as headmistress. Some of the male posters mentioned she had caned them! It seems like I missed out!
